1 Motivation Does Not Exist: When it comes to work out, I find motivation highly overrated and mostly confused with determination. Determination faces the challenges head on in though times, not motivation. Remember you do not need motivation to brush your teeth, you are just well aware of the consequences if you don’t. There is no need to be motivated for performing a daily activity.
2 Spice it Up: Repeating the same exercise routine for a long time, can get a little boring. Especially for strength training and weight lifting, you can keep the order of the muscle groups you are focusing while changing the exercise attacking these muscle groups. To give you an example, when I go to gym, I train triceps and chest in one session and biceps and shoulder in the second. Three exercises for each muscle group. If I am bored, I won’t start training biceps and triceps together, but I will change my triceps exercises. I can switch from dumbbells to machines. On another note, same goes for your diet, as healthy as it is eating the same salad everyday is not only torturous but also may not be healthy, spice it up, learn new healthy recipes, internet is just a click away.
3 Invest In It: Invest in your weight loss, you are worth it Invest in new gym shoes, or other running gears, invest in that food scale you really want, the fresh produce as oppose to canned food. If you are new to the gym phenomena and like it, seek professional help. Trainers are not (most of the time) provided to get more money out of you by the gyms. 4 To Share or Not To Share: I know this will sound terribly cynical but if you are losing weight or even trying, you are doing such a courageous thing that a lot of people may envy you. Don’t let insincere comments wear you out. However, the weight loss process can be very emotional sometimes by itself, and if you think you just don’t want to deal with other’s comments, then do not advertise you are trying to lose weight or eat healthy to not supportive peers. Let the results of your weight loss reveal the truth as they won’t leave any room for negative commentary.
5 If You Bite It Write It: Most people fail to lose weight or become healthy because they cannot track their calorie intake, ‘the food’ and calorie output, ‘calories burn by exercise’ as diligently as they should. Your mouth is like an unlimited credit card, and your exercise routine is your paycheck. If you don’t plan and track your expenses against your income; when you check your bank account by the end of the month, the chances are, you will be surprised but not pleasantly.
6 No Diet Food: I personally hate diet food (duh! Nodietneeded), because usually they are not healthy! It may be arguable that a diet product has fewer calories than its none diet version; Calories are (mostly) bad, and therefore diet products are good. My counter argument is none diet products are not natural and we do not need diet products, all we need to do is eat in moderate portions. To me diet products are not being used for the extra calories of none diet versions but to compensate the bad eating habits of the consumers. I try to go with healthy none diet items when I buy groceries. I do not need all the extra chemicals in my body for a few more bites.
7 Dream Big: Here is a trick for you if you insist that you can’t do without motivation. Dream yourself at your goal weight, with your friends, in the dress you would like to wear. Try experiencing the feelings when you will achieve your goals when you doubt yourself. And don’t forget, if it was easy, everybody would do it.
8 Magic Pill: There is no magical pill for weight loss. There are weight loss pills, they may be very effective. I can’t comment on them as they are neither my expertise nor field of interest, but I guess it is safe to say that none of those pills out there is magical because obesity is still number one health issue in United States. It is either that those pills ‘Do Not Work as well as they are claimed to do’ or ‘nobody watches commercials on TV’. Once again, adjusting eating habits and exercising is ‘the’ pill for you, don’t let the fact that it is harder to swallow scare you.
9 Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures: There are certain types of food that won’t be left alone in the fridge even after 12 am in the morning, by anyone. For me it happens to be chocolate and I know I am not alone. I cannot sleep knowing that there is chocolate in the fridge. I created my own solution, I do not buy chocolate for home. If I really want to eat it, I buy a small pack, just enough to fight my immediate craving, but I never keep chocolate at home, never, because it is either this or chaining me to the bed.
10. Losing Weight Will Only Solve Your Weight Problem: Weight problem has a tendency to be accused of being the reason to many other problems. Thus, its solution is expected to solve these other problems that are linked to it. Bad news is weight loss will only solve your weight problem, so do not have high hopes of your life being turning 180 degrees. The good news is you have one less problem to deal with and with the determination you have in weight loss, you just prove yourself and anybody else that you have what it takes to overcome a hard problem.
